Energizing The Innovators of Tomorrow
By JR Ridinger

Speaking at The Launch Pad at the University of Miami tonight was an honor and a privilege for me. Having the opportunity to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators is extremely meaningful to me, and drives me on a daily basis. Helping others find success is tremendously rewarding for Loren and I – that's why we both jumped at the chance to speak at The Launch Pad.

In a time when economic uncertainty has many people wondering about their future, it's refreshing to see a school embrace the concept of entrepreneurism the way The University of Miami has. Entrepreneurism provides a path to success while many of the traditional avenues are failing left and right. In bad times, big ideas work – so you have to think big. Ultimately, that is the task of an entrepreneur – to think big, and recognize paradigm shift before anyone else does. Entrepreneurs don't participate in the recession; they take advantage of the opportunities it provides!

As an entrepreneur, you don't need a ton of money – you just need to be savvy, smart, and sharp. The money will come to you if you're on the right track, after all – money always follows the best ideas. An average person without capital can accomplish incredible things if they have the passion and the drive to succeed. With the right plan and the right mindset, you can compete with a Fortune 500 company!

Entrepreneurs are the high priests of society, taking risks and creating jobs, but they are far from omnipotent. If you want to be successful, get out there and hook up with people who are smarter than you.  Successful entrepreneurs always surround themselves with people who know what they do not. Cultivate your interests and learn whatever you can from your environment. Entrepreneurs always find something to take away from their experiences, especially the setbacks.

Entrepreneurism is a profession unlike any other. No matter what you do, you must have an entrepreneurial spirit to rise to the top, but the golden egg isn't some kind of exit plan. In entrepreneurism, there is no such thing as an exit strategy - the true prize is residual income! You build something once, but you reap the benefits of it throughout the course of your lifetime. That is the ultimate goal of entrepreneurism.

Having the opportunity to speak at The Launch Pad tonight was a tremendous experience for me. I hope the up and coming innovators and entrepreneurs in the crowd enjoyed the evening, and gained a better understanding of what it takes to make it. I wish them all the best in their endeavors, and know that with the right mindset and work ethic they will achieve their dreams!
